Frequently Asked Questions
Everything You Need to Know
We know you've done your research. Here are the answers to the questions our customers ask most — honestly and without the fluff.
About Beminda
What is Beminda?
Beminda is a portable, rechargeable steam therapy device designed for daily eye comfort. It generates warm moist steam at therapeutic temperatures (40–42°C) and delivers it to your eyelids in a hands-free, 10-minute session. No drugs, no drops, no preservatives.
How does it work?
You fill the device's reservoir with Beminda Eye Hydration Complex, then place it over your eyes. The device generates warm moist steam that does two things simultaneously: heat softens hardened oils in the eyelid glands, and moisture hydrates the surrounding tissue. This dual action is what sets steam apart from dry heat compresses and masks.
Who is Beminda designed for?
Beminda is designed for anyone dealing with persistent eye discomfort — whether it's from long hours on screens, contact lens wear, hormonal changes, post-surgical dryness, or simply years of feeling like nothing has worked well enough. Our customers are typically people who have already tried drops, compresses, and prescriptions and are looking for something that addresses the deeper problem.
What liquid do I use?
Beminda Eye Hydration Complex only. Every new Steam Therapy Pro now ships with a 1-month starter bottle of Hydration Complex standard, so you're set from day one. The Complex is a B-vitamin solution formulated specifically for the device — Vitamin B12, Vitamin B6, Trehalose, and Taurine — engineered to atomize cleanly through the ultrasonic mesh and to carry something into the warm vapor beyond just heat.
Don't substitute anything else, including tap water, distilled water, saline, contact-lens solution, or eye drops. Other liquids risk damaging the atomizer and void the warranty.
Does It Actually Work?
Is there scientific evidence behind steam therapy?
Yes. Steam therapy for eyelid conditions has been studied in clinical settings across 7 countries, with trials spanning thousands of patients. A 2025 meta-analysis found that steam and moisture-chamber devices significantly outperformed warm compresses on tear film stability (p = 0.005). A separate 6-month randomized controlled trial published in Nature's Scientific Reports confirmed steam therapy's effectiveness with significant symptom improvement. Across 58 studies, moisture-chamber devices showed zero adverse events.
I've tried heated masks before. How is this different?
Most heated masks and compresses deliver dry heat that cools below therapeutic temperature in 2–3 minutes. Research shows that blocked eyelid glands need sustained heat above 40°C for 10+ minutes to soften hardened oils. Beminda delivers moist steam at a consistent temperature for the full session — providing both sustained heat and therapeutic moisture simultaneously. Dry heat provides one. Steam provides both.
How is this different from cheap eye masks on Amazon?
Disposable heated masks typically cost $8–15 per box and deliver inconsistent dry heat that fades in minutes. Over a year, that's $180–475+ on products that lose temperature before they can be effective. Beminda is a one-time investment in a reusable, rechargeable device that delivers consistent moist steam at the right temperature, every session, for as long as you need it.
How long before I notice results?
Individual experiences vary. Some customers report noticeable improvement within the first week. Others find the most meaningful change after 2–4 weeks of consistent daily use. Like any routine, consistency matters. The gland function you're supporting took time to decline, and it takes time to improve.
Will this replace my eye drops?
We cannot make medical recommendations about discontinuing any treatment prescribed by your doctor. What we can say is that Beminda is designed to address the root cause of why your eyes may feel dry in the first place — blocked oil glands — rather than only adding moisture to the surface. Many customers find that as their gland function improves, their reliance on drops naturally decreases. Consult your eye care professional about adjusting any treatment routine.
Safety
Is it safe to use near my eyes?
Yes. The device operates at body-temperature warmth (40–42°C / 104–108°F) — comparable to a warm bath, not hot. Steam therapy has been evaluated in 13+ clinical studies with zero reported adverse events. One study across 28 centers and 102 patients found that the majority rated steam therapy "satisfactory" or "very satisfactory" with zero safety issues.
Can I use it if I wear contact lenses?
Remove contact lenses before using Beminda. The device is designed to be used on bare eyelids. You can reinsert your lenses after your session.
Can I use it after LASIK or other eye surgery?
Many of our customers are post-LASIK patients. However, if you have recently had eye surgery of any kind, please consult your ophthalmologist or eye care professional before using Beminda or any new eye comfort product.
Are there any side effects?
Across all published clinical studies on steam therapy for the eyelids, zero adverse events have been reported. Some users may experience temporary warmth or mild redness immediately after use, which typically subsides within minutes. If you experience any discomfort, pain, or vision changes, discontinue use immediately and consult a healthcare professional.
Is Beminda an FDA-approved medical device?
Beminda is a general wellness and comfort product. It is not classified, cleared, or approved as a medical device by the FDA, Health Canada, or any other regulatory body. It is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease or medical condition. If you have a diagnosed eye condition, always consult a qualified healthcare professional before starting any new routine.
Using Your Device
How long is each session?
Each session is 10 minutes for both eyes. You can use it once or twice daily — morning, evening, or both. Most customers build it into their existing routine: while having morning coffee, during a work break, or before bed.
How often should I use it?
For best results, we recommend daily use. Consistency is what makes the difference. The glands in your eyelids benefit from regular, sustained warmth — just like any other part of your body benefits from a consistent care routine. Many customers use it once in the morning and once in the evening.
Is it portable? Can I travel with it?
Yes. Beminda is cordless, rechargeable, and designed to travel with you. Use it at home, at the office, or in a hotel room. The compact design fits easily in a carry-on bag.
How do I clean and maintain it?
Wipe the device down with a clean, damp cloth after each use. Empty any remaining liquid from the reservoir. Do not submerge the device in water. Detailed care instructions are included with your device.
How long does the battery last?
A full charge provides multiple sessions. Charging is via USB-C and typically takes around 2–3 hours. The exact battery life depends on usage frequency and session settings.
Cost & Value
Is it worth the investment?
Consider what you're already spending. Artificial tears run $50–80 per month ($600–960/year). Prescription drops like Restasis cost $411–822 per month. In-office LipiFlow treatments cost $700–1,500 per session and aren't covered by insurance. Beminda is a one-time purchase that you can use every day, indefinitely. The only ongoing cost is the Beminda Eye Hydration Complex you put in the reservoir — a fraction of what most dry-eye sufferers spend on drops each month.
My doctor hasn't recommended this. Should I still try it?
Steam therapy has been used in clinical settings for years and is well-documented in peer-reviewed research. That said, most general practitioners and even many optometrists don't specialize in meibomian gland dysfunction — it's a relatively underserved area of eye care. We always recommend consulting with your eye care professional and sharing the research with them. We're happy to provide study references if helpful — just email us at hello@beminda.com.
Why not just get a prescription treatment?
Prescription options exist, but patient satisfaction data tells a clear story. Restasis carries a 1.8 out of 5 rating across 299 patients. Xiidra has 52% negative reviews and side effects including eyelash loss. These treatments address inflammation, not blocked glands. They also cost $400–1,000+ per month. Beminda takes a fundamentally different approach by targeting the oil glands directly — and it costs a fraction of one month of prescription drops.
